10 Reasons You Should Write a 10-Minute Play
- They’re so short that you actually finish them, which boosts your confidence as a writer and gives you momentum for your next project.
- Agents and Producers don’t have a lot of time to read your full-length work. If you pique their interest with a 10-minute play they’re more likely to request other work from you.
- There are tons of 10-minute and short play festivals looking for new work. It’s a great chance to actually get your work produced on a stage!
- It’s a heck of a lot easier to self-produce a reading of a 10-minute play than a full-length play and it’s still a great chance to hear your work read aloud and get feedback.
- As a Writer, it forces you to be economical with your words and get to the point. This limitation can be really freeing and help keep your dialogue impactful and punchy.
- It’s great for moving your storytelling muscles because you have to hone in on the beginning, middle, and end quickly while still making sure your main character has a transformation.
- You can bang out a 10-minute play relatively quickly, which means you can write a few 10-minute plays to make up an entire evening of plays!
